In January of 2002, Massachusetts 4 Sale By Owner became the very first company to introduce the "for-sale-by-owner" concept to Western Massachusetts consumers. We knew that to be successful we would need to provide expert marketing guidance and visibility for sellers while making the for-sale-by-owner home buying experience easy for buyers. Our upscale real estate magazine (Picket Fence Preview of Western Mass) was distributed throughout the area each month from 2002 - 2008, when it was retired to make way for newer technology. We began educating buyers and sellers through articles written by the experts - attorneys, real estate appraisers, home inspectors and others, bringing a fresh, new approach to home selling and buying. Media outlets began to slowly pay attention, though still fearful of retribution from the National Association of Realtors (NAR) and its million-plus membership. Going directly to consumers, through a series of "How To Sell Your Own Home" seminars, we provided step-by-step instructions for sellers and again turned to our panel of experts - attorneys, home inspectors, appraisers and mortgage lenders who eagerly participated. We taught homeowners how to compete head to head with real estate agents. Being a pioneer in alternative real estate, the company challenged the status quo by dispelling many myths of the real estate transaction. The internet was actually a small part of our business model in 2002. MA4salebyowner.com created a way for sellers to display multiple pictures of their properties through slide shows to provide buyers with a way to "preview" properties easily. Who would have thought that in just a few years over 85% of buyers would be looking online to locate their new home and that our print magazine would move to an entirely online edition! With the launch of our newest website in 2010, Massachusetts 4 Sale By Owner is once again breaking new ground by expanding its services to buyers and sellers throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. |
